SA mine safety review begun

SafeWork SA has kicked off a public consultation process as part of an initiative to improve safety regulations in mines.

The consultation is part of the agency's broader move to align its regulations with other jurisdictions.

“This consultation is designed to build upon efforts already under way through the National Mine Safety Framework, which seeks to achieve nationally consistent workplace safety legislation for the Australian mining industry," SafeWork SA executive director Michele Patterson said in a statement.

Submissions close Tuesday 6 April 2010. Details of the discussion paper can be found here: http://www.safework.sa.gov.au/show_page.jsp?id=8413
